How You Can Prepare Your Child for His or Her First Dental Appointment
Introducing a child to the dentist can be a difficult task for parents. Kids are typically nervous about visiting the doctor, and when that doctor is someone who is poking around in their mouths, those nerves can go from standard anxieties to full-blown fear. For this reason, it is essential that you not only find the right children’s dentist for your child, but also, that you do everything you can to prepare him or her for the big day.
The Team You Choose Matters
Our caring and compassionate dental team at Children's Dental Health Center Pleasant View offer relaxed meet and greets to help ease your child’s tensions and to give him or her a chance to adapt to the surroundings. We want your little one to be as comfortable as possible, which is evident in everything from our kid-friendly décor to the patient manner of our staff. Our dentist has extensive experience in treating children of all ages. However, if you want to put your mind at ease, check out our “About Us” section to learn more about our dentist’s degrees and professional affiliations.
Before the Appointment
While we do our best to make our office friendly and inviting for little ones, there is only so much we can do here in the office. You can do your part to alleviate their fears by doing the following prior to the first appointment:
- Remind your child that the first appointment will be about showing off his or her smile, and meeting your Pediatric staff and Pediatric Dentists.
- Bring your child along to one of your own dental appointments to familiarize them with the dental office and to show them that there is nothing to be afraid of.
- Begin practicing good oral hygiene habits long before your child’s first dental appointment; this will make the first visit go much smoother.
