Keeping teeth clean every day is one of the most important things you can do to keep your smile healthy. Regular dental exams and dental cleanings at the dentist are important, too. At Children's Dental, our team will examine your children's teeth, and then customize your cleaning as part of your personalized care. Our quality of dental care is outstanding. When you choose our office, know that you are getting the quality care from highly experienced professionals. We are staffed with people who are very qualified, caring, compassionate, and gentle. We do our best to provide your child with a positive experience while in our care.

Before You Arrive

Be as natural and relaxed as possible when telling your child about the dental appointment. Let the child know about the dental appointment and that he or she will meet some new people who want to help them stay healthy. Focus on the positive! Mention that this office is for children only. Try not to use phrases such as "Its not going to hurt" or "He’s not going to give you a needle pinch". Try to avoid words such as "pain", "hurt", "needle", "pinch", "shot" and/or "pull".

We are careful to use words and phrases which are not as negative. Denying that these things won’t happen, especially for children who have had previous dental experience, usually increases anxiety and fear. If you are unsure how to answer your child’s question, tell him or her that you don’t know, and encourage your child to ask these questions when you arrive in the office. If your child has a favorite toy or book, bring it along.

After You Arrive

Please don’t be upset if your child cries. Especially for younger children, this is a normal response to the unknown, something new or different. When you enter the examination or treatment area, it may take a few minutes for an anxious child to settle. We anticipate how a child will respond to new situations. Our experience and education have prepared us to do this well. Please be prepared to let us talk to your child while you observe quietly. Too many people talking at the same time and saying different things will only confuse the child and increase anxiety. We are committed to ensuring that you are well informed before we do anything.

Dental Services

Diagnostic Services

Before providing any dental treatment, we need to become familier with your child and your family. This involves: taking a detailed medical, dental and family history and completing a thorough head, neck and oral examination. If necessary, dental radiographs (xrays) will be taken. We will use specialized tests to assess risk for dental disease.

Exams

We will conduct a thorough examination of your child's teeth for any developing conditions or cavities, and make treatment recommendations accordingly. Regularly scheduled examinations are a critical preventative tool in monitoring oral health, making the patient aware of any potential problems and offering corrective measures to avoid more serious complications.

Expert Guidance of Behavior

Sensitive and affectionate management of a child’s fear, anxiety or pain in the foundation of our treatment approach will be carefully considered. We use consistent, yet adaptable methods of behavior guidance that are scientifically proven.

Sedation and Anesthesia

Keeping your child safe and comfortable during their dental treatment is a responsibility which we take very seriously. Children do feel pain, so we recommend local anesthesia for all invasive dental procedures.

We Are Certified and Fully Qualified to Provide

Nitrous Oxide and oxygen inhalation sedation, Oral Conscious Sedation and Intravenous Sedation. Some children may not accept treatment in the office. In these cases, we offer dental treatment using either oral sedation or IV sedation provided in our office by an anesthesiologist.

Restorative Dentistry for Small Cavities in Primary or Permanent Teeth

Tooth colored, preventive resin fillings may be recommended or flouride releasing white fillings. For badly decayed teeth which will not hold a filling, stainless steel crowns for back teeth and tooth colored crowns for front teeth are recommended.

Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment

Pediatric dentists have in depth knowledge of the growth and development of your child’s teeth, mouth and face. We can correct simple abnormalities in tooth and jaw positioning using removable orthodontic appliances, fixed orthodontic appliances or functional orthodontic appliances. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can pay dividends in improved dental health and in avoiding future dental problems.

Root Canal Treatment/Pulp Therapy

Some primary or permanent teeth require treatment of infection inside the tooth of the jaw. This treatment helps to retain the natural tooth which, in the long run, means natural function, natural appearance and less costly treatment over the long term.
